THC-Infused Aged Egg Nog

Aged Egg Nog

This is one of my all-time favorite recipes from former Food Network legend Alton Brown. On his show Good Eats, Alton Brown explored traditional ways to make some of the most classic recipes, sticking to the original methods rather than the shortcuts that have become the norm. His take on aged egg nog is based on the old British recipe, which mixed hard liquor with eggs and dairy to later leave for months to age in a cold place. While today, this simply means the back of the refrigerator, in the past this meant a cold corner of the house or even outside. This is best left for at least a month, but can be drunk as soon as the day you make it or even a year later. The alcohol will keep it safe. Don’t worry, it’s proven science.

For the dosing control, our recommendation is to Infuse each glass of egg nog as you serve to let each person adjust their dose and allow non-cannabis users to try this fantastic nog as well. You can use any cannabis tincture or beverage enhancer, but make sure it is unsweetened and unflavored - unless of course you find one flavored with cinnamon and nutmeg, that would be a lovely addition. We tried out the Butterfly Effect THC Tincture from Grow Ohio, available at Curaleaf for $66 with a total THC of 667mg. A pretty good deal for a solid THC Tincture.

Ingredients

  • 12 large eggs, pasteurized if you need peace of mind

  • 1 pound sugar

  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

  • 1 pint half-and-half

  • 1 pint whole milk

  • 1 pint heavy cream

  • 1 cup Jamaican rum

  • 1 cup cognac

  • 1 cup bourbon

  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

  • Butterfly Effect THC Tincture

Instructions

  1. Separate the eggs and store the whites for another application.

  2. Beat the yolks with the sugar and nutmeg in a large mixing bowl until the mixture lightens in color and falls off the whisk in a solid ribbon.

  3. Combine dairy, booze, and salt in a second bowl or pitcher and then slowly beat into the egg mixture.

  4. Move to a large glass jar (or a couple of smaller ones) and store in the fridge for a minimum of 2 weeks. A month would be better, and 2 better still. In fact, there’s nothing that says you couldn’t age it a year, but I’ve just never been able to wait that long. And yes, you can also drink it right away.

  5. Add your desired dosage of Butterfly Effect THC Tincture and fill the rest of the glass with egg nog. Top with a little extra grated nutmeg.
