New details show sprawling web of corruption in Southern California cannabis licensing
New information about a bribery scandal that has implicated local government officials from the Inland Empire to the San Gabriel Valley and southeast Los Angeles County is coming to light as a California lawmaker called for the creation of a statewide task force to combat corruption in the legal cannabis market.
Two plea agreements that describe pay-to-play schemes involving cannabis business licensing have been made public by federal prosecutors. These agreements support claims made in a Times investigation published last month that looked at how the legalization of marijuana led to a wave of corruption across California.
