Brittney Griner Supporters Stage Cannabis 'Smoke Out' Outside Russian Embassy After Sentence Upheld
Action among Brittney Griner's followers has been prompted by her latest court appearance.
Thursday in Washington, D.C., activists from the advocacy group DC Marijuana Justice gathered outside the Russian embassy and held a "smoke out" in protest after a Russian court upheld her nine-year prison term for drug smuggling charges on Tuesday.
At 4:20 p.m. local time, the organization began the demonstration and urged participants to bring any previously used vape cartridges. The WNBA player was detained because her luggage included vape cartridges that contained 0.702 grams of cannabis oil, which is prohibited in Russia.
