Full Spectrum Carnival by Local Joint
I saw a lot of heroes this October 31st of 2020, but not because they were dressed up for Halloween, but because there were so many great people participating in Local Joint’s Carnival, which was the end of a month-long fundraiser, Logan Needs Heroes for a 10 year old Autistic patient named Logan.
Logan was diagnosed with encephalopathy, absent seizures, inflammatory bowel disease, sensory processing disorder, speech apraxia, and a feeding disorder just three months before his third birthday. In 2015, Logan’s parents began whole plant cannabis treatment and within just 20 minutes they started to notice a difference in his behavior. Before whole plant cannabis treatment, there were many issues with fear, anxiety, and rage along with sensory systems and self-stim behaviors. Although cannabis has helped, because of the severity of his condition he is still in need of additional treatments. The funds raised will pay for his biomedical treatments, which will address issues in system functions using hyperbaric oxygen, supplements and much more to help improve his overall quality of life. The Carnival, held in the parking lot of Local Joint, included a dunk tank, music, carnival performers and Willie’s Tacos, along with a bunch of sensory stimulating games. I myself have a daughter who is also autistic and struggles with sensory processing disorder. She and her little brother attended the event with me, so seeing these games and how easy and stimulating they were was great. The Orbeez pool along with the pumpkin painting seemed to be the biggest hits of the party (my son loved the zombie nerf booth). Each game cost just a dollar each, with all proceeds going towards Logan’s medical treatments. Everyone that paid was also entered into some amazing raffles provided by Puffco, The Strength Doctors and Uncle Bear’s Brewery.
After the year we all have had, it was great to see how cannabis can bring so many people together, all to help someone else. Thanks are definitely due to everyone who participated. The Strength Doctor donated a medical certification. Good Things Coming participated with a game. Hempful Farms and OG Zonka donated the dunk tank and All Out Entertainment AZ donated the Zombie Nerf Booth. Liz from Green Star Doctors and Tonya from Axis Hemp helped the kids paint mini pumpkins donated from a local pumpkin farm. Local artist Jazpaintz was there selling paintings and painting the kids faces (my daughter got a butterfly on her cheek).
High Grade not only participated in the carnival with the marble painting activity, but they donated one dollar for every packaged item they sold at Local Joint throughout the entire month of October. Even though there were some that were not in attendance, there were quite a few vendors besides High Grade that participated the entire month. Due to their participation and donations throughout the entire month of October we have to send a special thanks to Nature’s Medicines, Phunk, Pure, Item 9, Defi, Puffco and, of course, Local Joint. With the help of all the vendors and attendees, the goal amount of $10,000 was raised and a check was written.
