Festivals can be overstimulating and exhausting for some sponsors and attendees so Chef Sebastian Carosi and his wife Carla have created a cannabis centered experience where guests are immersed comfortably in nature. Camp was set up at Mike’s Beach Resort in the serene forest of the Hood Canal in Lilliwaup, Washington. Appointed camp counselor Alex worked tirelessly to ensure that guests were set up comfortably in lodging with CBD welcome drinks upon arrival. I’m calling it Glamp Ruderalis because this rural beach resort was swanky and private. Along the canal, there were cabins with private jacuzzis and kitchenettes inside. Custom glamping tents nestled along the beach and in the forest were outfitted with soft rugs, chandeliers, mattresses, luxurious bedding, mini fridges, space heater and coffee maker. The forest fauna and flora push right up against beaches thriving with clams and oysters. This is truly a beautiful place to recharge with some magic mushrooms and reconnect with cannabis friends.

Chef Sebastian and Carla invite cannabis breeders and growers from the Pacific Northwest and across the country to participate in the annual Autoflower Cup. This is a friendly competition and much needed fellowship for breeders and growers to swap seeds and gardening techniques across-the-board.

Together we spent the days smoking fine cannabis, shucking oysters, swapping genetics, listening to live music, digging for clams, foraging for wild mushrooms, and performing a morning Cherokee drum circle. Activities and education discussions were led by cannabis and fungus enthusiasts. The team from Magical Butter sponsored waffles and pancake breakfast each morning. Puget Sound Seeds was super generous and fun to hang out with. Ari from Dyno Myco and the team from Mycophyte Solutions are two companies that we recommend each grower check out. The team from Firebudz Genetics was just a joy to work with and be around. Identity CBD made sure we were properly infused by beginning each day with CBD infused tea and coffee.

Each night, campers gathered around the fire pits to smoke cannabis, sip hot tea & cocoa and roast marshmallows. Live music by the reggae band One Dollar Check was the definitive highlight of our evening on the beach. The band was in the zone. @onedollarcheck on Instagram.

The best part of camp was One Dollar Check performing on the beach. One Dollar Check was awesome. -Seth Ferranti

Mike’s Beach Resort

Lilliwaup, WA.

This campsite location is significant for much more than its bountiful forests, oyster laden beaches and ocean views. Hood Canal is where Chef Sebastian was chased in a boat full of cannabis by federal agents. Agents seized his boat and prosecuted him for transporting cannabis between the US and Canada. This campsite location is symbolic of the sacrifice that chef Sebastian and others made before the cannabis industry became legal. Our friend, Seth Ferranti, spent two decades in federal custody on cannabis possession charges. Sebastian and Seth swapped many stories with campers about these adventures while we toasted 12-20 year old aged WhistlePig whisky.

I’d like to thank my wonderful friends Shane Stanford and Seth Ferranti for inviting me on this journey. Thank you to everyone who helped make Camp Ruderalis such a relaxing weekend with amazing cannabis professionals. Chef Carosi & Carla’s next experience is a Psilocybin Symposium set deep in the forest where mushroom species will be growing right outside your lodging. Visit @thepnwpuhpowee on Instagram or campruderalis.com/home to learn more about the upcoming Azzie Symposium. This fungi centered experience will be full of eco-gastronomic immersion set in nature.
